The Body Mechanics Story: From Recovery Roots to Bridgwater’s Fastest Growing Wellness Facility

Body Mechanics is owned and operated by brothers Laurence and Spencer Nicholson, who both share a passion for health, fitness, and longevity.

Their mission is to help people live fuller, longer, and happier lives by combining expert-led recovery, inclusive fitness, and personalised support.

Welcome to the Movement

At Body Mechanics, we don’t just help people recover, we help them evolve. Our mission has always been simple: relieve pain, and help every individual reach their full potential. But behind this mission lies a powerful story: one rooted in resilience, expert care, and an unwavering commitment to serving our community.

Where It All Began

Back in 2015, I (Laurence) began my journey as a sports massage therapist. I had the privilege of working with local sports teams, providing pitch-side care, assisting many local athletes and supporting people from all walks of life through injury recovery and performance enhancement.

As my passion grew, so did my skill set. I completed additional qualifications in Pitch Side Care, Medical Acupuncture, IASTM, Joint Mobilisation and Manipulation to name a few. My goal was to offer a deeper, more complete approach than just short-term relief.

From Personal Setback to Professional Purpose

In 2017, everything changed. I was diagnosed with bilateral neurogenic and arterial thoracic outlet syndrome - a life-altering condition that introduced me to chronic pain, physical limitations, and a deeper empathy for the people I served. That experience reshaped how I saw recovery, and ignited a new purpose: to make expert-level therapy affordable, accessible, and genuinely life-changing.

Founding Body Mechanics

In 2020, Body Mechanics officially launched - during one of the most uncertain times in recent history. What began as a focused treatment space quickly grew into something far greater. We weren’t just helping people feel better - we were transforming how they experienced movement, strength, and resilience.

A Family Mission

In 2021, my brother Spencer joined the business full-time after years of part-time support during his university studies. His mindset and dedication made him a perfect fit. By 2022, Spencer became co-owner and director, helping shape the next phase of Body Mechanics.

That same year, we acquired our first gym space - a major leap forward in our ability to serve people not just in recovery, but in long-term strength development and wellness.

Building the Future of Wellness

In 2024, we relocated into our current purpose-built facility in Bridgwater, Somerset - a space designed to reflect our values of inclusivity, professionalism, and performance.

We now offer a premium recovery room, expert-led treatment plans, small-group classes, a meditation room and an open gym - all within a supportive, no-ego environment where everyone is welcome.

Today, our team includes elite professionals like Jack Criddle, our first hire and now one of our most experienced senior sports therapists, Martin Darlington, who has decades of experience in the health and fitness industry & Kurtley Granter, one of our dedicated coaches - specialising in group fitness.

Every member of our team shares our vision: expert care delivered with humility, integrity, and passion.

Why We're Different

At Body Mechanics, we’re not just another gym. We’re a multidisciplinary health and performance facility rooted in expert therapy, real community, and personalised care.
